About the Therapist

Every therapist brings their own body, culture, and history into the room. Here’s some of mine.

I'm Jun, a somatic / body-based psychotherapist who believes the body carries what the mind can't always name.

I offer in-person somatic counseling sessions in Longmont, Colorado, and virtual sessions across Colorado.

Who I Am

I immigrated to the U.S. from Japan as a child. I've lived through both high-level athleticism and significant health challenges: a largely invisible disability (a stroke in 2019) and cancer (2024–2025, successfully treated).

I share all that, as my history, culture, and body are all part of how I show up with every client and supervisee, and that's true for you in your relationships, too.

This is why I specialize in supporting people navigating bicultural, immigrant, and BIPOC experience, and why I'm deepening my offerings for those navigating health and medical challenges.

My path

Before becoming a psychotherapist, I spent years as a computer programmer, so I know the pressures of "high tech" firsthand (which is also why I started Soma Nexa, a separate practice for people in tech). I was also on faculty for years at Naropa University's graduate Somatic Counseling department, as both an instructor and a supervisor. And, earlier in my counseling career, I also worked with survivors of interpersonal violence.

Humor, creativity, and collaboration run through how I work, shaped by years in improvisational arts like Contact Improvisation, Playback Theater, and Red-nose Clown. My ongoing practice of the Japanese martial art of Aikido has taught me how to manage relational conflict, hold rigor and discipline, and keep polishing the roughest parts of myself.

Multicultural & Social Justice Counseling

I work from a multicultural and social justice lens. Your culture, race, gender, class, ability, and immigration history all shape how you experience your life, including your mental health. Exploring those layers with you is core to the work.
